Chris Hunsucker

Career Overview

Chris Hunsucker served as one of the premier defensive spotters in NBBA history during his tenure with the West Coast Dawgs from 1995 through 2002. Alongside Mark Masterson, he formed one of the most effective spotting duos the league has ever seen.

During this period, the Dawgs became one of the most dominant defensive teams in World Series competition. Their defensive communication, positioning, and consistency helped establish a championship culture that defined an era.

World Series Spotting Excellence

To be eligible for induction as a spotter in the NBBA Hall of Fame, an individual must record at least four top-two finishes in the World Series Top Spotter Award voting. Chris exceeded that benchmark.

He earned World Series Top Spotter honors in:

• 1995 at Denver
• 1998 at Oklahoma City
• 1999 at Sacramento
• 2000 at Taipei
• 2001 at Cleveland

He also finished as runner-up in 1997 and 2002.

During the peak of this run, the West Coast Dawgs never finished lower than fourth place at any tournament. The Dawgs advanced to four consecutive World Series Championship Games, winning three straight titles from 1999 through 2001.

Impact and Legacy

Chris’s defensive leadership directly contributed to the success of elite players such as Eric Mazariegos, who earned seven World Series All-Star selections during that span, and Neal McDonald, who earned two.

His voice, precision, and command of defensive positioning were instrumental in shaping one of the strongest defensive units in league history.
