Denny Huberty

Career Overview

Denny Huberty was one of the foundational figures in the creation of modern beep baseball. A co-founder of the National Beep Baseball Association and the sport’s first World Series MVP, Huberty helped shape both the competitive structure and the spirit of the game during its earliest years.

Competing from 1976 through 1982, he played for the St. Paul Gorillas before joining Minneapolis BSF, establishing Minnesota as one of the sport’s early power centers.

Building the Game

Alongside John Ross, Huberty co-developed what became known as the “Minnesota Rules,” a groundbreaking framework that transformed beep baseball into a faster, more competitive sport for blind athletes. Throughout 1975, the two organized regular competitions between their developing teams, refining rules through real game experience and adjusting the structure to improve fairness, excitement, and strategy.

Those innovations became the foundation for the NBBA’s national growth.
