Dewayne Sparks

Career Overview

Dewayne Sparks competed in the NBBA from 1990 through 2005, returned in 2009, and later appeared with the BCS Outlaws in 2015. The majority of his career was spent with the Austin Blackhawks during one of the most dominant dynasties in league history.

Over 15 documented World Series appearances, Dewayne played 104 games, compiling 506 at-bats, 303 runs, 209 putouts, and a remarkable .599 career batting average. In 14 World Series during his primary era of competition, he achieved a .609 batting average against the best teams in the league.

World Series Excellence

Dewayne earned World Series All-Star honors in 1998 at Oklahoma City for Defense with a 3.43 putout average.

That single All-Star selection does not fully capture his dominance. In his first eight World Series from 1990 through 1997, he batted an extraordinary .648. During that stretch he hit:

• .708 in 1993

Despite those numbers, he did not always make the All-Star team due to the extraordinary level of offensive production during that era. His consistency at the plate was a major factor in the Austin Blackhawks’ run of seven consecutive NBBA Championships in the 1990s, along with a runner-up finish.

Defensively, Dewayne was equally impactful, finishing with 209 career World Series putouts.

Tournament Dominance

Beyond the World Series, Dewayne was a force at regional and international tournaments.

At the 1998 Cultural and Educational Foundation for the Blind Cup in Taipei, Taiwan, he batted .888.

At Oklahoma City tournaments throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, he posted an incredible .666 career batting average. Notable performances included:
